Again, “like a star in autumn” (Ε 5). ταχινός, ἀληθινός, λεπτακινός, οὐδαμινός, φυζακινός, πυκινός, ῥαδινός, πεδινός. Those in -ινος that have long ι, insofar as they live in water, are circumflexed on the antepenult: ἐχῖνος; it is also the name of a seer; and there is also Ἐχῖνος, a city of Acarnania, a foundation of Echinos; and there is also one in Thessaly. Rhianus said “the city of Ἐχίων” of this one. Some also call the same city Ἐχινοῦντα. κορακῖνος, φοξῖνος. Note has been made that καρκίνος is accented on the penult, both of the constellation in the sky and likewise of the sea-creature or land-creature, and also of the proper name and of the tool; for some do not correctly accent this on the antepenult. But καρκίνος ought to be circumflexed on the antepenult. And γυρῖνος is circumflexed on the antepenult, “the small frog.” Likewise with these also ἰκτῖνος, the bird, and the proper name. Ἰκτῖνος among the Athenians is a not insignificant craftsman. Those in -ινος that have long ι, when appellatives, want to be barytone: κάμινος, κύμινος, κυκλάμινος. But the oxytone ones are rare: ἐρινός, “the wild fig-tree,” and χαλινός. Those in -ινος with long ι that are proper names—ethnics or adjectives or having the sense of diminutives—are circumflexed on the antepenult: Φιλῖνος, Κρατῖνος, Ἐχῖνος (the proper name), Γεντῖνος, a city of the Troad, Γρησῖνος, a city of the Chersonese, Στουῖνος, a city of the Ligurians, and its citizen likewise. Ὑρτακῖνος, a city of Crete, which is also Ὑρτακός, and its citizen of the same name. Φαιστῖνος, a city of Crete, which is also Φαῖστος; Κεστρῖνος, a hero and a people; Rhianus in the fourth book of the Thessalica: “Κεστρῖνοι and Chauni and the proud-necked Ἐλινοί.” Ἐρυθῖνος, a city of Paphlagonia; it is said to be from ἔρευθος. Apollonius: “and beside them dwelt the steep Ἐρυθῖνοι” (Argonaut. 2, 941). And Homer: “and the lofty Ἐρυθῖνοι” (Β 855), and the ethnic is similar. Λαμητῖνος, a city of Italy, from the river Λαμήτος, near Croton. Hecataeus in the Europa: “and there is the river Λάμητος, and there are the Λαμητῖνοι.” And the citizen is Λαμητῖνος.
