Aigeirousa, a city of the Megarid, as Strabo says. It is also called Αἴγειρος, as Theopompus in the fifty-sixth book. Argennousa, an island off the mainland of the Troad by the Argennon promontory, from which come ἀργεννόεις and, by contraction, ἀργεννοῦς and Ἀργέννουσα. But Androtion in the fourth book of the Atthis writes it with ι. But if they have two, they are accented with a circumflex on the antepenult. Pityousai, various islands, which Alcman calls Πιτυώδεις; Rhodoussa, a city of the Argolid. Erikoussa, one of the Aeolian islands, so called from the plant. Phoinikoussa, two islands in the Libyan gulf by Carthage, as Hecataeus in the Circuit of Libya. There is also a city of the Phoenicians in Syria, Φοινικοῦσσαι, as he himself says in Asia. Phykoussai, islands of Libya; and they are so named because they are full of seaweed. Oinoussai, islands near Chios: Hecataeus in Europe. Elaioussa, an island of Cilicia opposite the mainland by Corycus; and there are also seven other islands. Schinoussa, a Phocian island. Drymoussa, an island of Ionia: Thucydides in the eighth book (c. 31). Pharmakoussai, two islands near Salamis; and another above Miletus, in which Attalus was killed. Ophiussa: thus Libya was called, as Polyhistor says, and also Rhodes and Tenos and the city Tyre. Taphiussa, a city of Cephallenia, formerly Taphos. Pithekoussai, islands about Tyrrhenia. Ichnoussa: thus the island Sardinia was called because it resembled a human footprint. Lopadoussa, an island by Thapsus of Libya, as Artemidorus in the seventh book of his Geography. Nagidoussa, an island: Hecataeus in Asia. Agathoussa: thus the island Telos was called, as Jason says. Phaselousai, two islands of Libya near the river Siris: Hecataeus in the Circuit of Libya. Delphoussa, a spring of Delphi. Gēthoussa, a city of Libya. Gonoussa, a city of Perrhaebia. Elaphoussa: thus the Greeks call an island of the Brettii in the Adriatic. Aigeiroussa, a city of Aeolis, as Herodotus says (I 148). Anētoussa, a city of Libya—except αἴθουσσα, which has double σ in the appellative; and Ἔμπουσσα; and Συράκουσσαι, a very great city, as Hecataeus in Europe says, a foundation of Archias and a colony of Corinth, contemporary with Megara in Sicily and Naxos. But ἡρῷσσα is accented with a circumflex on the antepenult by contraction of ἡρώϊσσα. * The disyllables in -τα, being rare, are accented with a grave: Genta, an Indian city.
