The system and collection, as in Aeschylus: «ἠδ´ ἀκρωνία κακοῦ—λευσμόν τε» (Eum. 187). Χιτωνία: thus Artemis was called, as Parmeno the Byzantine and Epicharmus in Sphinx: «καὶ τὸ τᾶς Χιτωνίας αὐλησάτω τίς μοι μέλος». Ἀζανία, a part of Arcadia; it is also called Ἀζηνία. Eudoxus in the sixth book of the Circuit of the Earth says: «There is a spring of Ἀζηνία which makes those who have tasted the water not even endure the smell of wine, into which, they say, Melampus, when he was purifying the daughters of Proetus, threw the purificatory refuse.» And there is also another Μασσαλία, as Philo says. Ἀθαμανία is a region of Illyria, though some say of Thessaly. Αἱμονία is Thessaly, from Haemon. There is also Αἱμονιαί, a city of Arcadia, from Haemon the son of Lycaon, as Pausanias says in the eighth book of the Description of Greece (44, 1). Ἀκαρνανία is a region separated from the Curetes by the Achelous. Ἀκμονία is a city of Phrygia, as Alexander Polyhistor says in the third book On Phrygia; and Akmon son of Maneus founded it. It is also called Ἀκμόνεια. Ἀλβανία is a region by the eastern Iberians. Ἀμαζονία is a city of Messapia. Ἀμμωνία is inland Libya; indeed all Libya too was so called from Ammon. Ἀμυθαονία is a district of Elis, from Amythaon son of Cretheus, as Rhianus says. Ἀπολλωνία: (1) a city of Illyria, inhabited by Illyrians, opposite Epidamnus; (2) on an island by Salmydessus, a colony of Milesians and Rhodians; (3) of Macedonia; (4) a city of Libya; (5) on an island of Acarnania, one of the Echinades; (6) in Crete by Cnossus; (7) near Alontinoi and the Fair Coast; (8) of Mysia; (9) a city of Mysia on the river Rhyndacus; (10) near Thyateira and Ephesus; (11) of Phocis, which Homer calls Κυπάρισσός because it has many cypresses, as Didymus says; (12) in the region of Coele Syria; (13) near Joppa; (14) of Mesopotamia; (15) of Libya, which was called Cyrene; (16) of Lydia; (17) of Pisidia, formerly Mordiaeion; (18) of Phrygia, formerly Margion; (19) in the island Siphnos; (20) of Syria near Apamea; (21) an island by Lycia; (22) of the Ionians in Thrace, as Demosthenes says; (23) of Crete, formerly Eleutherna, the fatherland of Linus; (24) in Egypt; (25) between Babylon and Susa. Ἀρμενία is a region near the Persians, from Armenus the Rhodian, as Antipater says in the third book On Rhodes. Ἀσκανία is a Trojan city. Nicolaus in the fourth book of his Histories: «Scamandrius, son of Hector and Andromache, from Ida and from Dascyleium and from what is called Ἀσκανία, which Ascanius, the son of Aeneas, founded».... And not only the lake, but also the country is twofold and homonymous, the one of Phrygia, the other of Mysia; and the poet mentions both, that of Phrygia: «Φόρκυς αὖ Φρύγας ἦγε καὶ Ἀσκάνιος θεοειδὴς τῆλ´ ἐξ Ἀσκανίης»
