For it is the thing signified: thus παρειαί, παρειά. They say, however, that Aristarchus and Aristophanes write παρειάς with the ‘ς’, since he also says «παρειάων ἁπαλάων» (Σ 123). But Ixion reads it as a dual and with lengthening of the ‘α’: παρειά. And the Ascalonite says, “it is not possible to find in the poet, in the case of feminine nouns, such a feminine form”; and he added “of nouns” because of «γηθήσει προφανεῖσα ἀνὰ πτολέμοιο γεφύρας» (Θ 378). And θεέειον has arisen from θεῖον by pleonasm of the ‘ε’, as εἷς becomes ἕεις.
The proper names in -ειον, of more than three syllables, being monogeneric, are accented on the antepenult: Ἀδραμύτειον, a city of Mysia on the Caïcus. The spelling is in two ways: with ‘τ’ and with ‘δ’, and with a diphthong and with ‘ι’, and with one ‘τ’ and with two. But it is with one ‘τ’ when it has a diphthong, and with two when it has only ‘ι’. It is named from Ἀδραμύττος the founder, a son of Alyattes and brother of Croesus, as Aristotle in the Constitutions and others say. Some, however, derive it from Hermon, king of the Lydians; for the Lydians call Hermon Ἄδραμυν in Phrygian. But this cannot be, because Ἄδραμυς does not have the ‘τ’. It is also said Ἀδραμύττιον, as Cratinus.
Κροκύλειον, an island of Ithaca: Thucydides in the third book (c. 96). And Heracleon son of Glaucus says that Ithaca is divided into four parts, of which the first, toward the south and the sea, is Νήριτον, the second Νήϊον, the third Κροκύλειον, the fourth Αἰγίλιπα.
Ὑπάτειον, the name of a mountain of Caria. Ἐφιάλτειον, the name of a mountain. Κηρύκειον, the name of a hill, on which, they say, Hermes, having gone up, proclaimed to the gods the birth of Artemis, Zeus having ordered these things. Ταντάλειον, the name of a mountain. Δασκύλειον, the city, which is also written Δασκύλιον. Φορβάντειον, a mountain of Troezen. Κυκλώπειον, the mountain. Μυρμήκειον, a small town of the Tauric land, which Strabo in the eleventh book calls Μυρμήκιον, but Artemidorus says Μυρμηκία; for the other is accented with circumflex on the penult. Κλεάδειον, the mountain. Γορδίειον, a city of Greater Phrygia near Cappadocia, from Gordius the father of Midas. Αἰόλειον, a city of the Thracian Chersonese. Theopompus in the twenty-third book of the Philippica: «he marched to the city Αἰόλειον, being in Attica, but governed together with the Chalcidians». Ἀχίλλειον.
