“ἔπι δινήεντι” (Ε 479): upon the eddying river; “μάχῃ ἔνι κυδιανείρῃ” (Ζ 124): in the man-glorifying battle. Likewise also, if it is between two proper names or two appellatives, it is reversed, a conjunction being taken along after the preposition: “νηῶν ἄπο καὶ κλισιάων” (Β 91), “Ἀγαμέμνονος πέρι καὶ Ἀχιλῆος”, so that again the preposition may precede; but if it is not between them, but is subordinated to that before which it ought to have stood, with no word falling in between, it is again reversed: “ᾧ ἔπι πόλλ᾽ ἐμόγησα” (Α 162); for the following is ἐφ᾽ ᾧ.
