No adverb ends in -ουν, but only ἀθροῦν; and this is also used with poetic extensions and with the addition of the article, both singular and plural. But I set aside αἰσχοῦν, which is said in the line “τοὺς εἴλω τασαίμην”; and “ἀλλὰ μισχοῦν καθήμενοι”; since these are nominal forms. The adverbs ending in -ξ are inclined to be accented on the last syllable, except those derived from a preposition; for these are accented on the penult: εὐράξ, μουνάξ, ὀκλάξ, ὀδάξ, ἐναλλάξ, αὐτοδάξ, ἐπιτάξ, κοάξ, ὑποδράξ, ἰατταταιάξ, διαμπάξ, βεβρεκέξ, κουρίξ, ἀπρίξ, ἀναμίξ, ἐπιμίξ. But πέριξ is accented on the penult, since it is from a preposition, and so is πάρεξ; and πάρεξ, when accented on the penult and construed with a genitive, has something distinctive, as though it had arisen from two prepositions. For whenever it is accented on the last syllable, we say it is not an adverb but two prepositions. We also note ἅπαξ when accented on the penult. Therefore in composition it takes its own accent: ἁπαξἅπαντες, ἁπαξἁπλῶς, the accent having been simply suppressed.
