The Dadikēs are a Persian people. Herodotus in the seventh book (c. 66). The Oxydrakēs are an Indian people, from whom, after saving Alexander, Ptolemy was called Sōtēr; but the story about the Oxydrakēs is false. The Derbikkēs are a people near the Hyrcanians. Apollonius, however, correctly writes the κ twice. Ctesias says that they are the same as the Derbissous, or the Terbissous. Cappadokēs: Herodotus says (I 72). It is also said Καππάδοξ and Καππάδοκος. The Karambykēs are a people of the Hyperboreans, from the river Karambyka, as Hecataeus of Abdera says. The Pausarkēs are a people under the Caucasus. Πολυδεύκης, Πολυνείκης: and also all appellatives derived from a verb are accented with the barytone, ἱερονίκης, Ὀλυμπιονίκης. But the adjectives are accented with the oxytone, πολυδευκής, πολυνεικής, except those derived from ἀρκῶ, αὐτάρκης, ποδάρκης. Words in -λης are accented with the barytone if they are declined through -ητος or through -ου: Ἐπιάλης, Ἐπιάλητος, which is used in Sophron, as in “Ἡρακλῆς Ἠπιάλητα πνίγων”; Κεφάλλης, Κεφάλλητος, a proper name; Ἀκέλης, Ἀκέλητος, the name of a river; there is also a city Ἀκέλης, and its citizen is called the same. Hellanicus said “εἰς πόλιν Ἀκέλην”; but it ought to be Ἀκέλητα. It seems to be said from Ἀκέλος, the son of Heracles and Malis, a slave-girl of Omphale, as Hellanicus relates. Ἀμέλης, Ἀμέλητος, the name of a river; Τρεμίλης, Τρεμίλου and Τρεμίλητος, from whom Lycia was called Τρεμίλη, as Panyasis: “There dwelt great Τρεμίλης and he married a daughter, the Ogygian nymph whom they call Praxidikē, by Sibros, the silver river beside the eddying stream; and her dread children were Tlōos, Xanthos, Pinaros, and Kragos, who, prevailing, ravaged all the fields.” Hecataeus in the fourth book of the Genealogies calls the inhabitants Τρεμίλας, but Alexander calls them Τρεμιλέας: “After bringing the Lycian Τρεμιλέες to an end, Bellerophon renamed them.” Herodotus calls them Τερμίλας in the first book (c. 173). And the oracle concerning them calls them Τερμιλέας. Δημομέλης, Δημομέλου. The Ἀψίλης are a Scythian people bordering on the Lazoi, as Arrian says in the Periplus of the Euxine Sea. Μυτίλης, the founder of Mytilene; Δασκύλης, the son of Periaudus, from whom comes Daskylion, a city of Caria. Ὀζόλης, a people. Of the Locrians there are three divisions: the Epizephyrii.
